The Outcast of Eden

The flower has blossomed
Don’t build your alter
In the place it once stood

Try as you might to entice it to stay
Your pleads for desired resonance
Echo in an empty chamber

The flower has blossomed
Don’t hold on to the petals
They turn to ash in your hands
Let go of the fragments

Take the dagger to the throat of your former
Slice the flesh and spread spilled blood across the soil
They act as if they weren’t warned
That the waters will rise and flood
And the Santa Ana blows through me

The blue remains
But the lightning doesn’t linger
Temporary nature
Like the one that flows through me
Though my hollow heart grows
As each love makes it more roomy

The outcast of eden
Yours is the love that leaves a mark
In the cavern of the heart
Looking into the black of your eye
The petals of ash echo
The flower has blossomed

I stand here where it once stood
But you are nowhere to be found
